Revealed: The updated Genesis Croix de Fer

Revealed: The updated Genesis Croix de Fer

The cornerstone of our range, the Croix de Fer is the definition of Genesis past and present. A bike that really can do it all, our latest range has expanded again, with eight models at a range of price points.

One thing every Croix de Fer frame has in common, from the range-topping titanium through the flat bar models and the entry level 10, is the lifetime warranty. This is a bike which is built to last, and we’re proud to support our customers and stand behind that.

Further shared features include mounting points, with every Croix de Fer compatible with racks and mudguards and a plethora of mounts for bottles, bags and anything cages.

Tubeless compatible rims and 40mm tyres are also consistent throughout the range, with valves supplied and only a dash of your favourite sealant required.

What follows is a run-through of our latest models, with the highlights and updates given special attention.

The ultimate Croix de Fer, our titanium model brings a new meaning to a single bike for life that can do it all.

The 3AL-2.5V frameset provides a sublime ride quality on and off road. Paired with an all-new carbon fork, weight is kept to a minimum, while the design is sleek thanks to internal routing for brake hoses and Dura Ace Di2 .

You’ll find all of those features on the frameset-only option, where you have the chance to create your very own dream build... something we did!

Our stock build comes with a specification that reflects the Croix de Fer’s adaptability. A semi-knobbly 40c tyre on 700c rims gives good scope on and off road, while the wide-ranging, top tier 11-speed Shimano GRX 810 mechanical groupset is perfect for every terrain.

Built from Reynolds 853, the Croix de Fer 50 is our most advanced steel model. The seamless air-hardened, heat treated tubing results in an increased yield strength and increased dent protection.

The rear brake hose is internally housed and for practicality, features a brass-sleeve making for easier routing. There is also internal routing for Shimano Di2 groupsets.

Stunning gloss black paint is matched to an oil-slick graphic, which shimmers in various lights and must been seen to be appreciated. All of these features are available in a frame-only option, mated to our traditional chromoly fork.

On our full build, we use our CGR1 carbon fork. This saves around 900grams compared to our steel offering and makes for a more direct feel. In keeping with this, there is a maximum clearance for a 40mm tyre when used in combination with a 700c or 650B rim.

Shimano 11-speed GRX-810 makes up the majority of the groupset, with a 46/30t 600-series chainset completing a highly versatile setup.

Built from Reynolds 725 and matched to a chromoly fork, the Croix de Fer 40 is our highest specification all-steel model.

Reynolds 725 is the benchmark when it comes to steel tubing. As it’s stronger we can get away with using less of it, so thinner butts are the order of the day helping to achieve a lighter overall frame weight and livelier ride without compromising strength.

The rear brake hose is internally housed and for practicality, features a brass-sleeve making for easier routing. There is also internal routing for Shimano Di2 groupsets.Available in two frame-only options, you can choose the 725 in quick-release dropout spec, or – as featured on our full build – the 142x12mm thru axle system.

On our full build the thru axle equipped frame is complimented by 11-speed Shimano GRX components, with 810-series derailleurs, 600-series chainset and STI levers and 400-series hydraulic brake callipers working in harmony.

Croix de Fer 30
£1899.99
Weight: 11.28kg (size medium, no pedals)
Clearance front: 700c 50mm, 650B 50mm
Clearance rear: 700c 45mm, 650B 44mm
Axles: 100x12, 142x12
Full spec sheet

Our Croix de Fer 30 model shares many features with our 40 – the same Reynolds 725 frame and chromoly fork, along with 12mm thru axles front and rear and the same internal routing for the rear brake hose and Shimano Di2.

The 11-speed GRX 600-series chainset and 810-series derailleurs also carry over, however the 30 deviates from the full GRX setup, by employing Shimano 105 STI levers, and TRP Spyre-C dual-sided mechanical disc brakes.

There is also a move from WTB i23 rims, across to Jalco XCD21 – which retain all of the tubeless compatibility.

These small changes pass on a significant saving and makes the 30 one of our most popular models, striking a great balance between specification and value.

Croix de Fer 20 | Flat Bar | Frameset
£1499.99 // £1199.99 flat bar
Weight: 11.64kg (size medium, no pedals)
Clearance front: 700c 50mm, 650B 50mm
Clearance rear: 700c 45mm, 650B 44mm
Axles: 9mm quick release
Full spec sheet | flat bar spec sheet

Our Croix de Fer 20 utilises our Reynolds 725 frame and chromoly fork, however this time with dropouts suitable for quick release wheels and external cable routing throughout. Available in two colourways and an all-new flat bar option, the 20 is the stalwart of the range.

Again, Shimano’s GRX groupset features heavily, this time in its 10-speed variant. A 600-series chainset and 400-series derailleurs provide the same 46/30 and 11-34 range as it’s 11-speed bigger brother, it just loses out slightly in terms of the closeness of those gear ratios.

Shimano Tiagra STI levers are matched with TRP Spyre-C mechanical disc brakes for reliable stopping in all conditions, with Jalco XCD21 tubeless compatible rims completing the package.

Croix de Fer 10 | Flat Bar
£1199.99 // £999.99 flat bar
Weight: 11.87kg (size medium, no pedals)
Clearance front: 700c 50mm, 650B 50mm
Clearance rear: 700c 45mm, 650B 44mm
Axles: 9mm quick release

The starting point for our Croix de Fer – and the starting point for adventure! Built from our own blend of Mjolnir seamless, double butted chromoly this Croix de Fer shares the same key features as all of our range.

Multiple mounts, generous clearances, disc brakes and sensible gearing mean that in terms of practicality, this bike misses out on nothing.

Shimano 9-speed Sora shifting is paired with our own chainset, which features the same successful 46/30t ratios as found on the GRX-specified models.

Again, Jalco XCD21 rims are tubeless compatible – as are the 40mm tyres.
