Joffrey Maluski's secret to great adventures by bike

Adventurer, environmental campaigner, filmmaker and of course Genesis Vagabond and Croix de Fer rider, Joffrey Maluski is most at home on the bike.  We caught up with the multi-faceted Frenchman to talk about his most recent adventures, bikepacking essentials and tips based on his extensive experiences. You can follow all of Joffrey's adventures over on his Instagram.

    Taking on the CotsDURO!

BikeRadar takes on Cotsduro, a low-key gravel event put on by The Racing Collective in the latest episode of Gravel Diaries. Over 80km of quintessential British gravel Jack and Felix go head-to-head on Strava segments to claim bragging rights, but most importantly they're racing against time to make it back to Stroud Brewery for beer o'clock.  Can they make their 5pm table booking for a juicy and refreshing little number? Or will they be left scraping the barrel?

Joeffrey Maluski highlights plastic waste and pollution on Plastiqu'Adour expedition

When it comes to highlighting the climate emergency, our friend Joffrey Maluski could have chosen to superglue himself to a busy road… but instead, he had the infinitely more sensible idea of building a raft out of 600 plastic bottles. He then grabbed his Genesis Vagabond and towed the raft from Biarritz to Tarbes, with the idea of launching the vessel along the Adour river and paddling the route back to Anglet.

    Pyrenees C2C x BAC

A ride of 750km to take in 27 cols and every iconic Pyrenees climb on a coast-to-coast route – that sounds like a recipe for adventure to us! It’s exactly the trip that Aaron and the British Adventure Collective crew were inspired to take on earlier this year. Aboard an assortment of Datums and Croix de Fers, the quartet set off from the sea near Biarritz, with seven days of riding in store before reaching the coast just outside of Perpignan. We join Aaron as he recollects a particularly steep slope in the Basque Country, where he picks up the story of his adventure.

The BikeRadar Gravel Diaries trio are back - and this time they are taking on 200km of the UK's best gravel riding at the 2021 Dirty Reiver. Riding on board the Fugio 30 and the Croix de Fer 50, Felix Smith, Robyn Furtado and Jack Luke enjoy one of Britain's biggest gravel events, pedalling through the best doubletrack that Kielder Forest has to offer.  Sit back, grab a brew or a beer and enjoy their story of fun and a little bit of pain in the latest episode.

Kerry MacPhee – Croix de Fer 50 first ride

What’s it like to ride the latest Genesis Croix de Fer 50 – our range-topping, Reynolds 853 model? Right now, there’s only one person who can answer that question! Tame mountain bike racer and Genesis ambassador Kerry MacPhee had the honour of being the first person on board the Croix de Fer 50 at our photoshoot. So we thought it was a good idea to ask what she thought after a day of riding over the Peak District’s finest gravel. Here’s Kerry’s take!     First impressions count – what did you think?! My first thought was wow, cool colourway!  It's kinda special when you can see your bike glinting in the sun - mostly because it means the sun is indeed shining, which also means a good bike day ahead and also means your bike is throwing out some special paint job vibes. The devil is in the detail with t

Discover the latest range of Genesis Bikes

At Genesis we have a history of doing things our own way, whether that’s making bikes we want to ride, or heading in a direction that might seem a little crazy at the time. We started making gravel bikes years ago, way before they were called gravel bikes. Our Croix de Fer and Datum were designed to do a bit of everything, because that’s what we liked to do. Sometimes you fancy a ride on the road, sometimes a gravel track, towpath or even a section of singletrack comes along and you want to see where it goes, and when that happens you need a bike that’s going to match your ambition. There’s no point in venturing off the beaten path if your dreams outstrip your two-wheeled companion. That’s where our latest range comes in. From the Croix de Fer to the Longitude and everywhere in between, our updated models are all built with adventure in mind.

Here’s a quick look at what’s new on every model… CROIX DE FER

Bike Canine: Odyssey in the Caucasus

Take one Genesis Longitude, add the most famous man and his dog in adventure riding, and what do you get? It's time to sit back and enjoy Bike Canine's biggest adventure yet!  Pablo and Hippie were due to be touring from Georgia into central Asia, however one global pandemic later and those plans had to change. It wouldn't mean an end to adventure though, as Pablo explains in the opening sequence of his feature-length documentary of his new journey:

Interview: Vin Cox - 10 years on - part two

In part two of our interview with Vin Cox, 10-years on from his record-breaking round the world ride, we continue our conversation, starting with his elongated return to normal life and ending with a chat about bikes. What else?! Miss part one of our interview with Vin Cox? Check it out here.   With all of these countries crossed, what was it like to return home?

Interview: Vin Cox - 10 years on - part one

Wearing a t-shirt from the Trans Iowa, Vin Cox answers our video call.  Ten years after setting a new world record for circumnavigation of the globe by bike, it seemed fitting to talk to one of Britain’s pioneering cyclists. Vin has a made a hugely varied contribution through the decades, from racing at the downhill mountain bike world championships in the early 1990s, to taking away pen and paper points calculations for the Notts and Derby Cyclo-Cross League when he devised an automated, computer-based spreadsheet system as a school project.

What tyres should I use – and will they fit?

Those are two of the most popular questions we get asked – so we thought we would give a rundown of the most popular tyre sizes and types, along with their strengths and weaknesses. Whichever tyre size suits your riding best we’ve got a bike to fit the bill, from road, to touring, gravel and everywhere in-between.

Our tips for commuting by bike

With the British population being urged to commute by bike, and new infrastructure appearing in London, Liverpool and Brighton, we thought we would run over a few pieces of advice to make commuting by bike a breeze. Whether you’re a first timer, or just getting back into the groove after a period of time away from your usual workplace, there has never been a better time to travel by bike.

Genesis Croix de Fer: The story of the legend

“Drop bars don’t always mean tarmac. ‘Normal riding’ shouldn’t be a definition of accepted limits.” That’s the description we gave our original Croix de Fer back in 2009 and it’s a philosophy we’ve followed ever since.

Riding Ventoux, Alpe d'Huez and Stelvio in lockdown

How do you ride three of the most iconic mountain passes - Mont Ventoux, Alpe d'Huez and the Stelvio - in lockdown? Some would do it virtually, but for one very special Genesis fan (or nutter), that wasn't enough. Russ Kingston is currently living in Spain where, unlike the UK, cycling on the public highway has been forbidden. Bored of Zwift and with nothing to do in the evenings, this Genesis Zero Disc owner figured out that if he rode up and down his driveway enough times, he could amass some elevation. Granted, it wasn't any old driveway. Measuring 137-metres and with an average grade of 13% this was more of a private road - nonetheless, 230 reps later Russ had completed his challenge - equal parts

Titanium special: Drool over every Ti bike we’ve made

There’s something special about titanium. Whether that’s the beautiful brushed raw tubing, or the idea that it will last a lifetime, it has always carried a mythical quality – and you probably haven’t lived until you’ve ridden a ti bike. At least, that’s what N+1 is telling us. With that in mind, we thought we would take a journey back in time and look at some of the great titanium bikes that we have made. Hold on for obsolete standards, comically small wheels and even triple chainsets…2010 – Genesis Altitude Ti
Our first ever titanium offering was a mountain bike – although with 26-inch wheels and three chainring

Dream Build: Adam Blythe’s Genesis Datum x Colourburn

When Adam Blythe announced that he would be a brand ambassador for Genesis earlier this year, people were already excited to see what bike he might be riding – and more specifically, what colour. Of course, we always knew about Adam’s creative reputation (just look at his shirt collection!), so we had to get him to choose his own custom colourway. It was never going to be a boring stealth build, but the bright orange peel stunned everyone and looks brilliant out on the trails.Realised by

  21. James Levelle's race for the future

James Levelle's race for the future

Last summer I had a crazy idea… race half way across the world from the UK to Chile – fossil fuel free – on a mission to find out how the next generation feel about the climate crisis and then amplify their voices in a film that I would deliver to the UN Summit in Santiago.  If I could get there in time…So on a bright and beautiful morning in late August, me, over 40 kilos of kit and my shiny new Genesis Tour de Fer 30, set off on a 30ft sailboat from the south coast of England for France.  Time was not on my side.  The tall ship taking me to South America was departing from Seville in southern Spain and I had just over three weeks to get there. Thick fog filled the English Channel and after a slightly nerve-racking zero visibility voyage through the world’s busiest shipping lane I arrived in Norman

  22. International Women's Day with Kerry MacPhee

International Women's Day with Kerry MacPhee

In celebration of International Women’s Day, we thought we would take five minutes with our very own everyday superhero. By day, Kerry MacPhee works in the renewable energy sector, but at the weekend she races her Genesis Mantle and in 2019 was the British XC Series champion! We had to find out more, so we caught up with Kerry after a long day at work, but just before her next training session…How did you get into riding and racing mountain bikes? I was a super sporty kid and grew up in the outer Hebrides where being an athlete just wasn't a thing. I was competitive and ran and played basketball and was obsessed with the Gladiators show but as I didn't have anyone around me that went on to become an athlete so I just followed the usual pat

    Event guide: Dirty Reiver 2020

200km of gravel, grins and good times – we cannot wait for the Dirty Reiver! And we’re not alone, as over 1400 riders have signed up for a sell-out 2020 edition, making it Britain’s biggest one day gravel event. A fair amount of you will be in the same position as us at Genesis as first-timers, but what’s in store? We take a look through the detail to find out. THE ROUTEThe Dirty Reiver is known as the biggest gravel event in the UK – that goes for both number of participants and distance covered. In 2020 there are three routes of 200km, 130km and 65km all starting

  24. Rider chat: Adam Blythe

    Rider chat: Adam Blythe

Late last year we welcomed Adam Blythe as our ambassador for 2020 – now very much away from the World Tour, he recently dropped by the office to say hi, talk upcoming adventures and even custom bikes. We’ll have more on that last bit soon, but first let’s get to know Adam a bit better…After a decade of racing your bike around the world, how are you adapting to life outside of the pro peloton? It’s good, but very different. I’m actually finding it all quite exciting as nobody is telling me what I’m doing any more and I’m my own boss. I have to get up and do stuff myself which is good because it makes me get out of the house. I also get to spend a lot of time with my kids and my family which is nice. But generally I can just go out on my bike when I want to, there’s no

British Adventure Collective's Scotland coast to coast

What a Scottish adventure! Despite winter coming in hard and early, we made it 400km across Scotland at its widest point on mountain bikes and packrafts. We knew undertaking a trip of this distance into such wilderness in November would be challenging, but the heavy rain followed by bitterly cold conditions made it a real test of resilience. Our route took us from Ardnamurchan point across the peninsula until we paddled onto Loch Sheil and then rode the length and onto Fort William. Then heading into through Glen Roy to eventually reach the warm sanctuary of Melgarve bothy, down the Spey and into the Cairngorms. With a mixture of some riding and a whole lot of hike-a-bike we trailblazed
