Jim McConnel reports from the second of the Asics Off-Road Series, the MudMan. Unlike last year's snow-covered winter wonderland, this year the event really lived up to its name. Once again onboard a Genesis Fortitude 'Race' 29er - Pictures courtesy of Katie Voutt. “Yikes. What a shock to the system the Asics Mudman off-road duathlon was this weekend. A shortish set of leg distances were on the menu: 8km run, 16km three-lap MTB and a further 8km run to finish. Easy huh? With some course tweaks explained by designer Jeremy on the start line, I wasn't alone as it dawned on me that this course was going to be more extreme than ever before. The first 8km run included the usual repeated ascents of Heartbreak Ridg..

The Bristol Oktoberfest 8hr Enduro saw a gathering of some key Genesis Team riders, for what is widely regarded as the last big event of the year. With the weather being a spot on 16C, and dry as a bone, the newly manicured course was riding fast – perfect for a Genesis Latitude Ti hardtail, with the majority of the team plumping for the Continental X King tyres. The race started with a short Le Mans style run and a frenetic hunt for the bike before heading through the race village and into the woods for the start of lap 1. Both teams (Jim & Jodie, and Fin & Oli) had decided during the mornings team meeting that a ‘2 lap relay’ was the best way to ride the 10km loops. The usual early lap mishaps due ..

The1st round of the Central Cyclocross League was held at the Milton Keynes bowl. Where 17yr Old Ed Clemens took the Proto-type Vapour out to find out what its capable of! Ed's Report: "Having got used the cooler summer temperatures (especially following the Three Peaks Cyclocross in the Yorkshire dales) the whole week had been a big shock with temperatures up to 29 degrees. Saturday was no different at around 28 degrees, I tend to overheat when it is this hot so today was no different and as it was all off road there were no points which you could cool down with the wind speed. I was one of the first to be called to the grid so had a good st..

We support some incredible feats of riding endurance, the majority of which take the riders far and away. But we like to get involved with events a little closer to home, on the 25th September Genesis backed rider Ed Clemens (17yr old Road Race and Time Trial extraordinaire) is set to tackle the infamous 3 Peaks Cyclocross Challenge. The organisers describe it as 'the toughest cyclo-cross on the UK calendar and also the biggest! What else can be said? Great spectacle. Unique event. Worth a visit even if you don't take part! Excellent range of prizes.' 34 of the 38miles are ridable, so that still means 4 miles of gruelling scrambling, running, pushing (..or any other way of dragging a Cross bike), over the Peaks. The e..

Will Snow, a supply teacher from Newtonmore, Scotland, took part in the 2011 Tour Divide, an ultra-cycling race that follows a2745-mile route down the Rockies from Canada to Mexico with a total ascent of 200,000 feet. ‘The Tour Divide (TD) challenge: Cycle the GDMBR (Great Divide Mountain Bike Route) end-to-end, as fast as possible in a solo, self-supported fashion’. With this one guiding principle in mind I knew I’d need a reliable bike. Bothy Bikes near Aviemore highly recommended the model they use for their hire fleet, a Genesis io id. Genesis Bikes then very kindly offered to support me by providing an 11-speed model to test ride on the TD. Now that I’ve done this I’m ..

Genesis Sponsored Adventurer Will Snow begins his Tour Divide aboard his Genesis 11 Speed iO ID As http://tourdivide.org/the_race describes the “challenge is simple: Race the rooftop of North America by riding a bike self-supported along all 2,745 miles of Adventure Cycling Association's Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The goal is to keep moving and be moved; to exist well outside the comfort zone as you tackle a cross-continent bike-packing odyssey as fast as possible (without cracking). Speed may be substance when it comes to Divide racing, but a flexible, sang-froid style is the best attack for the Route's multiple personalities. Divide racing format requires no designated rest periods or set distances a r..

There’s no better way of testing Proto-types than riding the same events and trails, that their proud owners will be doing. My latest event was the Bucks Offroad Sportive http://www.bucksoffroadsportive.co.uk/. A choice of 100km and 132km courses, starting out in Denham and heading out into the Chiltern Hills towards Wendover. I decided ‘to go long’ and make the most of the dry conditions. A large field of riders, including a variety of Genesis models, including the hard-core element on Cross and singlespeed (and Singlespeed Cross) bikes. My weapon of choice for the day was this year’s Latitude Ti, fitted with Shimano XT groupset and wheels, making a nimble and lightweight steed. It handled itself well on ..

"With only 3 weeks to go before I depart for Canada, I’m starting to lose sleep at night and gain some weight (the easy bit) as well as attempt to increase my training schedule (the hard bit). The superb April weather has given way to more unsettled conditions but I’ve had some beautiful evening bike rides out on local trails around Strathspey and the Cairngorms (Photo: Loch an Eilean, Cairngorms). The maps have arrived from the US along with an assortment of ‘bikepacking’ (frame, handlebar and saddle) bags, which will apparently be big enough to contain all the kit a Tour Divide rider needs – looks like I’ll be travelling really light. At this stage, friends and relative..

Will Snow, a 40-year-old mountain bike leader, is undertaking the gruelling ‘Tour Divide’ mountain bike race this June on a Genesis IO ID. The 2,745-mile route down the Rockies from Canada to Mexico has a total ascent of 200,000 feet. A typical day will involve Will getting up at 5am, up to 16 hours in the saddle, navigating through remote country with over 100 mile intervals between supply points and then having to find somewhere to sleep at night, often in the wilds at the side of the trail. As well as the extremes of mountain weather, physical and mental exhaustion, he’ll also need to be prepared for the odd encounter with a grizzly bear! “I am exceptionally grateful to Genesis for sponsoring me ..
