When we first saw the 8-speed Alfine hub with a disc mount, the iO became the iO ID in a matter of days and a new style of UK mud-plugger was born. A few of us here rode them over the winter and loved the low maintenance compromise between a single-speed and a regular geared bike. So I was really pleased to see these pictures that Day One owner Antony Lomas emailed us the other day, of his Day One that has been adapted in the same way. The standard Alfine shifter has been adapted to fit a drop bar and is a simple way to add gears.

Click on read more to hear how Antony did it. I’ve been playing around with a similar set-up for a while as we’ll have an Alfine Day One in the range next year.. see more here

We’ve just agreed with DT Swiss for our team riders James Leavesley and Paul Errington to ride DT Swiss suspension forks in 2010 / 2011. On their way to the UK are 2011 XRC Cross Race Carbon 100mm all-carbon forks – and not just with carbon lowers, steerers and crowns, these are the World Championship edition models complete with the WC bands!

DT’s forks are all new for 2011 – new designs, new damping systems and improved function and layouts. The confidence of DT in their products is infectious and they were very quick to recommend this fork when we said we had two of the UK’s most demanding Enduro racers on our team – after all, the service intervals are 200hrs and Switzerland gets its fair share of wet, gritty conditions..

While I’m posting images of the new Ti frame I thought I’d add this one. The welding around the BB area shows the build quality clearly.

..Something very indulgent and drool-inducing. Not a new flavour of Ben and Jerrys, but it does have a slightly random name.

Arrived last week. Firstly the very cool Gator Hardshell – an even tougher version of the Gatorskin tyres that I use on my Flyer. I’ve not had a flat since I fitted the Gatorskins and I’m so confident in them I regularly ride to work without a spare tube. These Hardshell versions are light and have even more puncture protection so they’ll not stay in the bag long!

There’s also the new Cyclocross Race 35c which will go onto my Day One ‘Cross, just in time for the wetter weather as the Speed King 35s have worn flat over the summer, they look like a perfect semi-slick now but hitting muddy patches at speed can be a gamble!
