XX-44 in titanium

“The great thing about standards is that there’s so many to choose from now”
But the new XX-44 headset for semi-integrated head tubes, pioneered by Cane Creek, is a worthy addition to the list. We decided to use this system as soon as we saw it would allow tapered fork steerers into a slimmer headtube than the usual tapered headtubes, plus gave us more room to work with for optimising the top and down tube dimensions.
I love the Alps..

Two weeks away riding in the Alps – it doesn’t get much better than that and I had been looking forward to the trip all year. Even more so when a box of three frames arrived a few weeks before the trip – our first full-suspension prototypes were here after nearly two years of background work and a final check-over in Taiwan earlier this year. Fox supplied a couple of custom-tuned RP23s, we had DT XMM 140 Twin-Shot and U-Turn Air Revelation Team forks plus XT groupsets ready to go, so after a few day’s set-up testing at Aston Hill two bikes were ready for a harsh initial test (the third is with another tester)
So it looked like the holiday was going to be a bike-testing opportunity, but there are times when work and pleasure do mix! They say nothing goes faster than hire cars or demo bikes…
Jack of all trades.. Master of Snow

Although Mr Olsen has already snuck a pic of my finished TiO race bike on I thought I would add my two pence worth on the other project I’ve been working on.
Based on a standard iO frame the crux of the build was the Sandman front forks… although they are built to cope with a much larger tyre I’m sticking with the Continental Diesel 2.5’s … more importantly the forks are 135mm spaced allowing me to run 2 rear wheels. The advantage is that I can have a different size cog on each wheel allowing a quick change of mind should I be faced with extended periods of differing conditions and if the worst happens and a freewheel dies I have another:) The standard XT hubs have been laced to a classic set of loaner Snowcat rims ( thanks Shaggy)… these classics are the origin of todays modern snow rims.. very wide but still light.
The Titec Jones bars are a must for a bike that may get pushed as much as it will get ridden so I have every hand position imaginable.. mechanical discs reduce improve the chance of me being able to stop this monster when its fully loaded and temperature drop the low side of zero as hydro’s cease to work efficiently.

Madison (our distributor) PR man Albert Steward’s ‘08 Flyer, as converted over the summer and finally re-finished at Armourtex in London. A shot-blast treatment plus clear laquer finish shows off the brazed details and weld beads well. Nice job..
Anyone wanting to see their build-up featured? Just mail them to us as a small (200kb-ish) jpg by logging in above and we’ll post them up – sooner or later we’ll have a ‘Your Rides’ section with bikes and ideas to browse (logging in is so we don’t get spammed, not so we can junk mail you!)
