Up until a couple of weeks ago this frame and fork had been perched for several months on the window ledge in my office and it had been pestering me daily by looking at me and saying “Dom, seriously, when the hell are you going to build me into a full bike? I’m just gathering dust here, Im not a bloody ornament”. A must for Road & Sportive cyclists (so we're told ... having not ridden this event ourselves before!) .... with a little over a week to go until the annual Flanders Sportive in Belgium http://sport.be.msn.com/cyclingtour/rondevanvlaanderen/2012/eng/ , we're busy making last minute adjustments to the Equilibrium Ti & Volant Prototypes as we get set to ride the event for the first time. The Volants been fitted with 28c tyres & 28t Cassette in anticipation of the Cobbled climbs, i've opted for the 130+km route myself, whilst Dom is going the whole hog and putting his body and the Equilibrium Ti to the test over the 260+km route that the Pro's will be using the folllowing day. So far we have only shown the Fortitude 29er in its singlespeed outfit, but here are a few pictures of one built with standard gearing, in this instance Shimano XT 2 x 10. I built it up for Jim McConnel who raced it at the Big Nevis Triathlon whick took place at Ben Nevis, Fort William on Septmeber 10th. The mountain bike part of the race was a 90KM off road ride, so a perfect testing ground for the Fortitude under race conditions. Jim managed to finish in an impressive 4th place!! A total time of 8 hours 13 minutes. Well done Jim lad.
