The1st round of the Central Cyclocross League was held at the Milton Keynes bowl. Where 17yr Old Ed Clemens took the Proto-type Vapour out to find out what its capable of!
"Having got used the cooler summer temperatures (especially following the Three Peaks Cyclocross in the Yorkshire dales) the whole week had been a big shock with temperatures up to 29 degrees.
Saturday was no different at around 28 degrees, I tend to overheat when it is this hot so today was no different and as it was all off road there were no points which you could cool down with the wind speed.
I was one of the first to be called to the grid so had a good start position, I went out hard and about half a lap in got a gap of around 50 meters, but soon after felt the toll and blew pretty hard. I lost a number of positions as the heat made it hard to recover fast enough, and took a while to get any power back.
The course was fast and dry but a few short sharp climbs and descents making me pretty glad I had the disc brakes on the Proto-type Genesis Vapour as I saw a few guys overshoot their braking spot on the way down. The course also had one long drag spiraling up the inside killing any speed and strength. With some power back in the legs I began to make up lost places and clawed back to finish 11th.
Unfortunately out of the prizes but won the prize for best hurdler and a few goodies.
Ed was not the only Vapour in the field, as Mr Clemens Senior took a 2011 factory spec Vapour along to compete finishing a creditable 27th of the 61 finshers.
Even more impressive results were had by the boys at the next Round of the Central League as Ed takes a Podium in the Seniors!.... Report to follow.
